Natalie Goldberg and the Accidental Buddhist

I just started re-reading a book I haven’t read in at least 20 years, Writing Down the Bones by Natalie Goldberg. I find it absolutely kick me in the nuts jaw droppingly amazing that despite the fact that I haven’t read this book since 1989 I remember it. I remember everything in here. [...]

Present Moment

I’m admittedly a little bit of a believer in a generally holistic approach to life. I am open minded enough to accept that remedies and diets passed down through the centuries by cultures around the world have at least the potential to be of value. I am also skeptical enough of western culture [...]

Writer

For the last five years I have been in flux. It began when, after 30 years around Jehovah’s Witnesses, my faith shattered and I became a freethinker, humanist and secular Buddhist. I reprogrammed myself, or more accurately, re-educated myself. I studied more broad than deep. My goal wasn’t to become [...]

I wish the iPhone supported Bluetooth keyboards

I have long dreamed of using the iPhone as a blogging device and I do, but only in the most trivial of ways. I post pictures and tweets and things like that, not thoughtful writing.

Helium Lunatics

Today I received an email from the website Helium informing me that I had been granted “Premier Writer” status.  I thought this odd since I had only written three articles on the site.  Apparently the fact that those articles were well reviewed by Helium users had granted me the coveted “Premier Writer” badge.  Yippee!!

Instead I went into introspection mode and talked about my childhood neuroses. That’s the kind of variety you get here at RyanSutter.net, you lucky reader [...]

The Köfels Asteroid

This. Drives. Me. Nuts.
Why in the world do we need to always have everything interesting that was ever discovered in the field of archeology have to be suggested to provide evidence of some sort for stories from the Bible? Whenever there is evidence of some ancient flood somewhere somebody tries to [...]

NaNoWriMo and other thoughts….

I can’t exactly pin down when I first decided that of all the things to be when I grew up, a writer was the most tempting. I think it maybe came from reading H. G. Wells as a kid. I got a Wells collection from the Westview Elementary school library when I was maybe [...]
