Why Do Americans Fail To Understand Science?

This morning I was listening to the Minnesota Public Radio Midmorning podcast. In particular, I was listening to a discussion of the topic “New polls indicates a dim view of U.S. scientific achievement” (listen to it here). The short of it is, there is a new poll that found (surprise!) the vast majority [...]

Writer

For the last five years I have been in flux. It began when, after 30 years around Jehovah’s Witnesses, my faith shattered and I became a freethinker, humanist and secular Buddhist. I reprogrammed myself, or more accurately, re-educated myself. I studied more broad than deep. My goal wasn’t to become [...]

I wish the iPhone supported Bluetooth keyboards

I have long dreamed of using the iPhone as a blogging device and I do, but only in the most trivial of ways. I post pictures and tweets and things like that, not thoughtful writing.
The reason is simple. I mostly like the little virtual keyboard on the iPhone, but not enough to type [...]

Spanish Fly

OK, so apparently the term “spanish fly” refers to an actual beetle that people crush up and use as an aphrodisiac.  I did not know this.  I just learned it and I went and googled the term to see what this beetle looked like.

Tonight was my first experience playing around with iMovie ’09.  Here are a few thoughts…
First, the new iMovie is staggeringly difficult to wrap your brain around if you’re used to the old one.  I’ve used iMovie since version 1.0 (which, for those of you keeping score at home, was in 1999…  about 10 years ago).  [...]

Bi-Partisanship… Why?

It seems to me that Obama has expended an awful lot of energy over his first few days in office attempting to reach out to the Republican party.  He has had a cocktail party with them, has made unnecessary concessions to them, and has even upset some on the progressive side in the process of [...]
