The Making of the Fittest

What a wierd week to start blogging again. Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died today. I’m laying out in my hammock in the yard and a car just drive by playing the Jackson 5′s “I Want You Back”. I can’t even begin to say how odd it is and how sad it [...]

Small Journeys

When I was a kid my father used to take me into the woods to hunt.  Usually he was after some sort of game that I wasn’t quite qualified to tackle like grouse or pheasant or (if he came across one) woodcock.  He and I would walk into the woods until we found a nice [...]

The Historical Jesus Puzzle – Part 1

I mentioned in a post last week that I had been in a conversation about the historicity of Jesus that I was considered turning into a blog post. Instead I went into introspection mode and talked about my childhood neuroses. That’s the kind of variety you get here at RyanSutter.net, you lucky reader [...]

Connections

I had intended today to post a synopsis of a really interesting discussion I’ve been involved in on a UU Theology mailing list about the historicity of Jesus. I still may do that, but there is something more pressing I want to try to write about even though the attempt will be something of [...]

God As I Knew Him – Part 3

NaNoWriMo and other thoughts….

I can’t exactly pin down when I first decided that of all the things to be when I grew up, a writer was the most tempting. I think it maybe came from reading H. G. Wells as a kid. I got a Wells collection from the Westview Elementary school library when I was maybe [...]

Syd Speaks Up On Religion…

The other day I was in a meeting with my son’s mother.  She complained to me that he has become increasingly vocal in his criticisms of religion and religious faith (especially Christianity) and she figured it was my fault for “teaching him atheism”.

frozen salad

When I posted my little entry about Jehovah being a creator I was sort of asking the question just to stimulate discussion and thought on the topic. I do understand why people are how they are and I accept them for being that. It got some responses though, so that was cool…

it’s time I got back and I don’t even know how I got off the track

It seems like I am constantly finding myself disconnected from the people I love and the community I am supposed to be a part of. I know that I disconnect myself, that I don’t naturally find myself fitting into groups and feeling drawn to community. This includes family, friends and the congregation… [...]
