I have been wearing Converse Chuck Taylor All-Stars since 6th grade. They are my favorite shoe and I’ve owned them in just about every color there is. I love me my Chucks and I have been planning to by a new red pair. They have long been a part of my identity. I am one of those people who wear Chucks.

I regret to say, however, that I will not be making this purchase.

Converse, it turns out, is owned by Nike and Nike just re-signed Michael Vick. I will never give a penny to any organization that will support a person capable of such premeditated, sick, cruelty as Michael Vick. I do not believe that any person capable of doing what he did should be used to promote a product or service. I know Nike has it’s share of major corporate flaws, and perhaps I should have boycotted them sooner, but in all honesty I did not know until today that Converse was owned by Nike. I never checked into it before. I don’t, as a general rule, knowingly purchase Nike products. I looked up the brands owned by Nike today so I could be certain that I would not inadvertently give money to Nike and found, to my extreme disappointment, that this meant Converse.

So, no more Chucks for me until either Vick is dropped or Converse ceases to be associated with Nike. I won’t even wear the Cons I currently own or any clothing I have that displays a Converse logo.

I don’t expect this to change anything, but I will feel better knowing that I will be neither promoting nor lending financial support to a company that thinks a twisted psychopath is a suitable representative for their products.
