On the weekend of February 14th and 15th, at the Har Mar Mall in Roseville MN, the Twin Cities Creation Science Association will be hosting the 2009 Home School Science Fair. The fair will be just like any other school science fair. I mean, just read the procedures they list on their web site:
The Scientific Method and Home School Science Fair procedures.
I. Purpose. Propose a question or problem for which you are seeking an answer.
II. Hypothesis. Turn your question or problem into a statement that presents the solution in such a way that it can either be proved or disproved (falsified).
III. Research. Gather information and plan your experiment that will prove or disprove your hypothesis.
IV. Experiment. Get equipment and conduct your experiment.
V. Conclusion. Present what you have discovered.
VI. Display construction. Make your board and table display.
VII. Science Fair Day. You as the presenter are the key to a great Science Fair Day.
So far so good, right? The rub is in the guidelines…
1. This fair is open to all Home School students in the greater Twin Cities area.
2. Each student may enter only one project.
3. There will be only individual projects, and team projects will not be allowed.
4. Each exhibit should include a Scripture reference. Some ideas are not specifically mentioned in the Bible, but there are verses that develop principles that can be related to your project. The intent is to relate all areas of science to the Creator of the universe.
5. Students must be with their projects during judging and initial public viewing.
6. The Science Fair Board retains the right to reject any unsafe or inappropriate project.
That’s right. Every single exhibit, regardless of it’s topic, needs to contain a scriptural reference. I would think that would fairly severely limit the possible scientific topics up for discussion… Maybe do one to test whether or not a bat is a bird, or try to find a four-legged insect….
One more thing to note on their site…
Five things to remember:
1. Know your material.
2. Be Confident.
3. Communicate well.
4. Be thorough.
5. Pray your exhibit will witness to non-Christian visitors.
I gotta go to this thing…
