Last Friday the report on Sarah Palin’s “Troopergate” abuse of power incident was released by the Alaska legislature and it’s findings weren’t good for Caribou Barbie:

Page 8, Finding Number One of the report – “I find that Governor
Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a)
of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”

This one sentence confirms that a) Palin broke the law (Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a)), b) acted unethically (the law she broke was the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act) and c) abused her power.

So, what subtle spin is Everybody’s Favorite Trainwreck putting on it?  Try this on for size and try not to laugh…  Palin said the report “vindicates” her, finds that there was “no unlawful or unethical activity on [her] part”, and that “there was no abuse of authority at all in trying to get Officer Wooten fired.”  In short, her response is to simple call black white, call day night, and say, “Nuh-uh, the report says I’m innocent, not guilty!”.

The Report: “Governor
Sarah Palin abused her power”
Palin: “there was no abuse of authority at all”

The Report: “Governor
Sarah Palin [violated] Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a)
of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act”
Palin: “no unlawful or unethical activity on my part”

The Report: “impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to
advance a personal agenda, to wit: to get Trooper Michael Wooten
fired.”
Palin: “there was no abuse of authority at all in trying to get Officer Wooten fired.”

Remember here, Palin is supposedly relating what the report says, not defending herself against it.  According to her, the report vindicates her, clears her of any unlawful activity, and says she didn’t abuse authority when it says precisely the opposite.  Either she didn’t read the report and somebody told her it was all sunshine and roses for her, or she did and decided to simply state that it vindicated her and hope her followers wouldn’t bother to read it for themselves, which they probably won’t since there are no pictures and several words larger than two syllables are used.

It is not shocking that the Grand Orwellian Party would try to do this but if it actually works I’ll be more than a little disappointed in the American electorate.
