I read an article on Salon this morning that suggested that those of us who are panicking about the current election situation need to pull ourselves together, take a deep breath and act. I think it’s excellent advice and I’m going to do my best to follow it.
You may notice the new Obama fundraising graphic over on the right hand side of the screen here at my little bloggie. I’m hoping to raise some money for Obama’s campaign. I have a goal of $1000 and so far it’s at $0. If you plan to donate to his campaign anyhow may I humbly ask that you donate via my page. It goes to the same place but it makes me feel good.
. And just to let you know, I’m planning on making some Obama merchandise that I will sell at my upcoming show and donate to his campaign. If you want to buy a custom button or t-shirt and know that every penny of your purchase will go to the campaign then come to my gig and buy something.
What else can we do besides donate to the campaign? Talk about Obama, not She-Who-Shall-Remain-Brainless. Make this campaign about what Obama will do not about what a dangerous whack job that woman is. Ever since McCain chose his running mate, the media has been dominated by her. Obama, it seems, is being completely ignored. We have to change that.
So here’s what I’m asking you to do. When the conversation turns to Governer Mooseburger change the subject to Obama and McCain, their policy differences, the ways Obama will positively impact the country and the ways McCain is out of touch and dangerous as a leader. We have to drag the spotlight off Miss Congeniality and back on the guy who just might be the last chance to make this country livable again: Barack Obama.
What else can we do? Volunteer. Volunteer to do whatever needs doing. Put your name in the hat and your feet on the street.
Get into it with people you know who might be undecided or worse. Try to convince them. Every vote is going to count and this is the most important election in decade.
We need to take our country back and time is running out. I admit that I’ve been a little knocked on my ass by these last weeks but I’m getting off it. You with me?
