If I vote, I’ll likely still vote for Obama, but I’ve lost my faith in him. I do not believe he is going to bring the change we need. He’s probably a better choice than a senile warmongering liar like McCain but he’s not going to restore this country to what it was before Bush. I’ve unsubscribed from his mailings, I’m not giving him any more contributions, I’m off the bandwagon, out of the so-called movement.

And this is why. I don’t have to agree with every little thing the man says. I don’t even think he’s a bad guy. However, Obama has applied for a job, the job of President of the United States. The chief responsibility of this job is stated in the oath of office:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the
office of
President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability,
preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Nearly every bad thing Bush did is at root due to his failure to preserve, protect, defend or abide by the Constitution. The FISA bill was a situation in which Obama could have chosen to defend the Constitution and he chose instead to vote to weaken it. If we were in an alternate universe in which McCain voted for FISA and Obama voted against it, all of Obama’s supporters would use McCain’s vote for FISA as proof that he was offering a third term of Bush, continueing Bush’s illegal program, granting amnesty to lawbreakers. They’d beat McCain about the head with FISA. But, no. Obama voted for it. This isn’t about tacking to the center, this is about the ability to perform the duty of President and in this case, this test, he has failed and in so doing has given me grave doubts about his ability to lead this country.

He could still prove me wrong, somehow, but as of now I’m not investing any hope in him to be any different than any other politician. Change I can believe in? No, no I can’t.
