Well, the two things you’re never supposed to talk about in polite company are religion and politics.  Of course, this isn’t polite company and I talk about religion regularly.

The point of this post is Obama, the second coming of JFK and MLK rolled into one.  In the last week or so I have become convinced that not only is he going to win the nomination, but that he ought to win the nomination because he’s exactly what this country needs right now.  At first I was pro-Hillary because of two major things: experience (her own) and experience (her husband’s).  I’ve never found her particularly charismatic or appealing on a personal level but I considered her to be very competent.  In truth, I considered McCain to be competent in much the same way but he’s a war hawk and I couldn’t ever support that.  Besides, I believe the Republican party has had enough time driving this country into the ground and it’s time for them to step aside.

I have been convinced, however, that Obama isn’t just running a campaign, he’s leading a movement and that’s a very different thing.  For whatever reason, there are occasionally political leaders or cultural figures who become symbols, who change the world and galvanize society.  You can go back in time as far as written history exists and you will find people who have had a character that created milestones in history.  I am slowly becoming convinced that Barack Obama is one such person, somebody who can actually restore a sense of optimism and reason to a country over-run with bigotry, fear, Fox News, and cynicism.  What we need right now is more than a competent legislator, we need somebody to be a revolutionary, to galvanize our country and restore our place in the world as a free and forward-facing nation.

Oh yeah, and he’s also shown himself to be a skilled leader where the actual business of legislating is concerned.

He’ll definitely have my vote if he gets the nod and I won’t just be voting to stop the other guy from winning, I’ll vote for him because he’s the candidate I’d want to see as president.
