Today is the last day of January meaning that tomorrow is the beginning of the RPM Challenge for this year. And you thought I was going to say February…

I have a variety of goofy ideas for what I want to do for the challenge this year but more than anything I want to produce an album that I’m proud of. I haven’t written anything that I am certain I will record, although it is possible that I might use some things I’ve already written but haven’t recorded.

One thing I know for sure is that I’m going to document the hell out of it, both here on ryansutter.net, over at the RPM site, on my MySpace page, on my UStream.TV channel, and probably on my podcast as well. This may all sound horribly exhibitionist of me but my real motivation is to bring a bit of virtual community to the project so that it’s not so lonely. Another motive is that I like documenting my life in general in the more mundane ways as well, like family pics and videos just like we all do and I don’t have enough of that kind of stuff about my recording life, which is odd. I have no videos of Rhett and I having a recording session, for example, despite 23 years spent recording music with him. I only have a handfull of pictures of performing with him. It’s odd and I’d like to change that going forward so I try to document this stuff now.

So, expect a multimedia blitz. You’ve been forewarned. :-)
