So, apparently a group of civic minded geeks decided to band together to provide free municipal wi-fi in the one-ISP town of Lawrence KS and have been quite successful, even causing the local info-monopolist to alter their policies.  Power to the people, eh?

Meanwhile, in China, some guy has been sentenced to death for a worm-farming pyramid scheme.  Perhaps this is the kind of thing that should have earned the guy a Darwin Award (2007 Darwin Awards).

I don’t dig the RIAA or DRM, in fact I hate ‘em both, but watermarking is no problem from where I stand and apparently now that DRM is dead, watermarks are the new thing.  I can live with that, although I gotta wonder if they plan to try to watermark vinyl now that it’s making a comeback.

I was bummed to hear that Vampira died.  Nobody could quite where I red one-piece like she could…  She would have loved to live in an age when we could grow beating living hearts in dishes, don’t ya think?

BTW, the age of the cyborg is upon us.  Yes, the whole steroids thing is old hat, but now we’ve got Idouble amputees being denied the right to compete because they are a competitive advantage.  Wacky. Japanese farmers will soon be cyborgs too. I need to get cybernetically enhanced one of these days…

On a final note, the Macworld keynote is this week, but when you throw your party to celebrate the new ‘MacBook Air’ go easy on the helium balloons, we’re almost out of helium you know….
