Last nights show at the Acadia had it’s share of pluses and minuses.

On the plus side, the turnout was not terrible and the crowd was really warm and enthusiastic.  I think they liked us.  We had plenty of energy.  We got a few more names on our mailing list and distributed a few CD’s to people who had never heard us before last night.  That’s all good.  On top of that, we had a lot fun, and Rik introduced me to Anthony who just might be the recording and mixing engineer we’re looking for.  Also on the plus side, my mom and sister Jasmine and her husband Chris were all there, as was Jeremy’s hubby Charles, and apparently Melanie (although I didn’t see her, Es says she was there) which was nice.  They all missed the debut gig.

On the minus side, there were flubs and mistakes and miscues galore (at least by me) and we again had complaints from the audience about the quality of the mix.  Apparently some things were too loud and others were too quiet…  damn.  Maybe Anthony is the answer to that.  Maybe playing more upscale venues and more professional level shows.  I dunno. The worst miscue of the night came when my mom yelled out that I needed Jesus during “Patterns Imprinted on Stars”, cracked me up and made me forget the chords.  I rolled along with it and we survived but poor Rik wasn’t so fortunate after the show when my mom cornered him and another guy and started preaching to them about her beloved savior.  Listen, Christians, the reason that the rest of us aren’t Christians isn’t because we have never heard the story.  We know it, we’ve heard it, a billion trillion times.  Most non-believers are as Biblically educated as the believers, some more so (many atheists became atheists because they read the Bible).  Telling us about Jesus is not educational, it’s redundant and rather pointless.  We know about him.  We don’t believe he was what you think he was, OK?  You do, we don’t, you think we’re immoral and wrecking our afterlives, we think you’re silly and wasting your current life.  We are at an impasse, so, please, quit wasting all of our time and talk about something that matters.

Everybody seems to like the Trumpet Marine hat I made so I think I have to make some more.  And t-shirts, I need to make t-shirts.  Merch merch merch merch merch….

Watch this space for additional rants and, of course, news of impending Trumpet Marine gigs!
