So, I recently whined about not having a Nintendo Wii.  This was mainly because I couldn’t find anybody who had one to sell me at retail price (sure, I coulda got gouged on eBay but I don’t want to reward such scalliwags…).  On Sunday, my boy and I got up early (6:30) in response to an Internet rumor that Circuit City was going to have the blessed consoles in stock.  Lo and behold, the rumors were correct.  There were 12 of them, we got #2.

We have three discs for this little thing, Wii Sports (which came with it), Sonic the Hedgehog and the Secret Ring (or something like that), and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.  My thoughts so far.

First, the Wii is absolutely the greatest thing in video games.  Last night I wanted some exercise, but it was rainy and nasty out, so I played tennis indoors on the Wii.  I worked up a sweat, jumping and swinging, got some good cardio.  Even got a sore shoulder out of it from pushing my serve a little too much.
I’ve never been able to do anything like that before.  If for no other reason than Wii Sports, this little machine is already the coolest thing going and should help me and my son get in shape this spring.

Second, the Wii seems to hold the potential to do a lot of other things.  I haven’t gotten it online yet, but I’ve seen what it can do with an SD Memory card pulled out our digital camera and it’s great.  Pop out of camera, pop into Wii, watch pictures and videos on the widescreen TV instantly.  Sweet.

Third, Zelda.  So far, so great.  I love Zelda and the latest installment rocks.

So, my verdict on the Wii?  10 out of 10.
